San Francisco: Under The Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco, a one-of-a-kind city, offers a wealth of entertainment and enjoyment for tourists of all ages. The city is famous for its multi-story row homes and hilly terrain reaching up to 100 feet. San Francisco lies on the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, surrounded by the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. Most city roads are extremely steep, lending to its unique views from an elevated vantage point. It’s not uncommon to see the city draped in a thick layer of fog, with winters mild and summers warm and dry.

The city’s arts and culture trace back decades. Visit The Filmore, charged with helping Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead launch their amazingly successful music career in the early 60s. The American Conservatory Theater is a popular local venue for a elegant night out, providing Broadway theater as well as local productions. For science fans, The Palace of Fine Arts offers their Exploratorium with amazing hands-on activities.

Here are a few more areas you won’t want to miss:

Haight-Ashbury, an area hugely influential in the 1960s during the beat generation. The area continues to offer a bohemian quality of life, with many locally owned stores and retro shops, though mainstream commerce has since been integrated.

Market Street, the city’s main transit artery.
Fisherman’s Warf, a popular tourist attraction, with the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Wax Museum and Musée Mécanique, a museum filled with penny arcade games and other interesting exhibits.

Nob Hill, one of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods.
The San Francisco Zoo, housing 250 different animal species, participant in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ species survival program.

The Castro, an urban gay village frequently portrayed in pop culture.

The Golden Gate Bridge, a massive six-lane suspension bridge and one of the largest in the world, connecting San Francisco to Marin County.

A visit to San Francisco is not complete without a ride on one of the world’s last manually-operated cable car systems – the famous San Francisco cable car or trolley. Currently, the cable car network includes the Powell-Hyde, Powell-Mason and California Street lines, now primarily tourist attractions.

San Francisco has exceptional dining ranging from budget-conscious seafood to high-end cuisine. The local food selection mirrors its diverse population, with a wide range of options including vegetarian and vegan menus, sushi bars, Mexican and Chinese restaurants, clam chowder and crab entrees.

San Francisco, California is a welcome retreat from the everyday grind during any season. To book travel, search vacation package deals or check arrival and departure availability, visit Vasrue.com Travel.

Suites Suitable For a Saint (St. Valentines, That is)

With Valentine’s Day just a month away, isn’t it time you started thinking about your holiday travel plans? We’ve conducted our own research and unveiled three exceptional Bed & Breakfasts ideas sure to put a sparkle in your paramour’s eye.

In New York’s Bristol Valley lies the 1795 Acorn Inn (www.acorninnbb.com), a prestigious AAA Four-Diamond Award winning resort for nine consecutive years. This unbelievable inn has five intimate rooms exquisitely decorated with the finest luxuries and amenities including plush robes and bath products. Most rooms include fireplaces, with common areas adorned with comfortable ottomans and reading books.

If you’re looking for sweet southern comforts, consider the historic 1888 McMillan Inn (www.mcmillaninn.com) in Savannah, Georgia. With just four private rooms dressed in Victorian elegance, you and your sweetheart are engulfed in the treasures of an era gone by. The main parlor greets pampered guests with a roaring fireplace and extensive selection of CDs, while the dinging room charms you with fine Crystal, silver and china atop an antique French burled olive ash table.

Our third choice for your romantic Valentine escape is the historic Jacob Hill Inn (www.inn-providence-ri.com) in Providence, Rhode Island. Winner of numerous awards including the AAA Four Diamond for the past six consecutive years, ZAGAT’s 2007 Top U.S. Hotels, Resorts & Spas, and the Top 10 Most Romantic Inns 2007, Jacob Hill Inn is an escape you won’t soon forget. Amenities include a large Plasma TV in a home theater environment, large Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs and fireplaces. But the ambiance and décor are undoubtedly the most impressive.

Also in recent travel news:

- Government data released Thursday identifies Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as the busiest in terms of flights for the second year in a row. Coming in at second place was Chicago O’Hare International.

-

- Gulf Coast fuel has taken a new low, the most favorable in 13 months. Experts say the price may be heading even lower. This trend marks a possible boost for the airline industry, fueling investor interest in airline stocks.

Valentine’s Day: Grown-Up Style

At age five, you woke to the anticipation and thrill of paper valentines and white doilies decorated with taped-on heart-shaped lollipops. At age fifteen, your heart raced passing a folded note to your high school crush. Now that you’re an adult, Valentine’s day has taken on a whole new meaning.

Alone or attached, coupled or parenting, Valentines Day is the ideal opportunity to spoil yourself and those you love. Chill the bubbly, stock-up on chocolate delicacies, stop by the local florist and plan one of the most spectacular Valentine’s ever.

Here’s a few tips for making 2007 the most memorable ever:

• Reserve a romantic Bed & Breakfast at a locale you’ve always longed to visit. Research your options to find the ideal inn exquisitely decorated, since you’ll want to spend most of your time indoors. Keep in mind, many popular suites book far in advance and require a minimum three-day stay.

• Book a three- to five-day ocean cruise to Alaska, Hawaii or the Caribbean. Day or night, the tranquil ocean waters and gentle waves have lulled the hearts of lovers for centuries.

• Plan a camping trip in the southwest and remember to schedule time for a warm, crackling bonfire under the stars, with blankets optional. Bringing the kids? Just pack the ingredients for warm s’mores.

• Book time at a spa for a day or weekend filled with luxury and indulgence. Today’s spas offer the best in skin and body care plus health and wellness. You’ll return to work – and life – vibrant, glowing and rejuvenated.

• Arrange for a romantic Valentine weekend at home. Secretly arrange childcare with friends or family members. Stock-up on candles, campaign and truffles. Then prepare a candle lit dinner for two, complete with a mouth-watering chocolate cake and a fresh flower arrangement. Then wake early to cook a hearty breakfast in bed.

• Miss time with your family? Take this opportunity to show everyone in your life how much you love them. Plan a family vacation to DisneyWorld, the Mall of America or a historical landmark the kids are learning about in school. Remember to bring pink and red cards and gifts for everyone.

• Solo? Don’t mope. Valentine’s Day is a perfect chance to reconnect you’re your friends. Visit your old college buddy on the east coast or plan a fun-filled girl’s night out.

Valentine’s Day is a great day to treat and spoil yourself. Plan well in advance and make it a holiday you’ll talk about for years to come. To book travel, search vacation package deals or check arrival and departure availability, visit Vasrue.com Travel.

Hawaii: Where Romance Meets Recreation

The lush and accommodating, volcanic formed Hawaiian islands offer an enchanting Pacific, Polynesian paradise for travelers worldwide. The main islands of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui, steeped in history and tradition, are temperate and comfortable year-round, as would be expected from their tropical or sub-tropical locale. Travelers arrive by air and ship to celebrate the fascinating Hawaiian heritage.

The island natives have a rich culture based on an ancient Polynesian belief system. The islands are rich with legends, mythology, gods and goddesses. Long ago, island natives planned fishing, planting, harvesting and farming on moon patterns, using the Hawaiian moon calendar. Another traditional practice is the Kumulipo, or song of creation, an ancient chant recited by kahunas, or priests, at important festivals or events to explain the origin of the Hawaiian people.

Seaside Romance in Barcelona, Spain

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Nestled along the majestic, tranquil Mediterranean coast lies the romantic Spanish city known for its ancient culture and awe-inspiring historic architecture. The capital of Catalonia, Barcelona has mild, comfortable winters and dry, smoldering summers. The best time to vacation, weather-wise, is during the Spring and Fall, March through June or September through January. So now is the ideal time to experience its spendor.

Visit this romantic city with your paramour this Fall and absorb as much of its arts and culture as possible. Barcelona blends the ancient with the modern, offering a unique and eclectic experience. Beginning in the Gothic Quarter, its quaint, narrow streets captivate visitors with magnificent Gothic architecture, peaceful squares and fragmented remains of what were once the Roman walls surrounding the city.

The elaborate Barcelona Cathedral is one of the most impressive structures you’ll behold, with its striking peaks and pointed rooftops piercing the skyline in its characteristic, Gothic tradition. A tour of the passionate Barcelona arts and culture would not be complete without a visit to local medieval palaces like La Pia Almoina and Casa dels Canonges, or the nearby Palau Reial Mayor and Chapel of Santa Agata. Say ‘I love you’ again and again amidst halls and surroundings which have watched generation after generation, era after era, pass before their eyes.

Being seaside, Barcelona offers a unique marine feel, with former dockyards turned Museums and ancient, medieval port facilities. Watch the sunset in her eyes before you settle in for a late dinner and cocktail. The Barceloneta is the city’s fishermen’s quarter adjacent to the beach. Just a short stroll or subway ride away, you can lie near the waves and escape into delicious dining facilities serving an array of seafood, black rice and Catalan dishes. While menus are in Spanish, waiters are friendly and accommodating to tourists. Other urban sections of interest include Ciutat Vella, the city’s old town and Eixample, the city’s Modernist quarter.

Top off your romantic get-away with a stroll through the city’s unique shopping conveniences. Barcelona’s wealth of commerce includes quaint street markets and craft shops as well as prestigious stores near Eixample’s passeig de Gracia and the Rambia de Catalunya. Discover the elegance and exclusivity of the world’s finest jewelers, specialized book stores and internationally acclaimed designer fashion.

Throughout the city, residents and tourists dine on Mediterranean cuisine, sip fine wine and eat scrumptious deserts. Enjoy seasonal produce which changes daily to rice with pigeon and wild mushrooms. Plus, don’t forget the superb selection of cigars, served at many local dining establishments.

If you visit soon, you can use the Barcelona Card, which offers discounts on common tourist attractions including entertainment, restaurants and museums. Each card is valid for one to five days. The Articket is a similar pass focusing on Barcelona’s most popular museums and cultural centers.

Get away, escape the stress of everyday life and explore the romance and adventure along the coast of Spain in magnificent Barcelona. For more travel articles, visit Vasrue.com, today!
