Posted, Not Promoted: What Our Portfolio Videos Did on YouTube

Portfolio Results / YouTube / Organic Reach

We edit videos to show what we can do. Instead of leaving them in a folder, we put them on our YouTube channel to see how real viewers would receive them. No ads, no boosted posts, no promotion campaign. Here is what happened.

6,276views across our portfolio uploads
33uploads from 17 portfolio projects, July–October 2026
79%of those views came from Shorts (4,986)
1,560views on our top Short, in under three weeks
Does editing move the needle? 6,276 views, 33 uploads, 79% from Shorts, $0 in ads. Organic reach from our portfolio edits on YouTube.
The headline numbers at a glance. Everything on this page is organic reach: no ads, no boosts, just the edit.

Counted: YouTube public view counts on November 4, 2026  ·  Channel: Clinton Douglas IV / Vasrue Digital Media  ·  Paid promotion: none

The experiment

Every video below started as a portfolio piece: a documentary edit, a sports reel, a listing film, an AI commercial. The goal was to show clients our editing, not to chase views. So the test was simple: publish the finished edits, do nothing to push them, and watch what the audience did on its own.

What we did

  • Uploaded the finished edits, plus vertical Shorts cut from the longer pieces
  • Gave each upload a clear, descriptive title and description
  • Linked some of them from this website and our Upwork profile

What we didn’t do

  • No ads or paid views
  • No boosted posts or promotion campaign
  • No outreach, collaborations or shout-outs

The standouts

3,063

One six-hour interview, six uploads

Two story films and four Shorts cut from a single long-form interview. The two strongest Shorts reached 1,560 and 1,364 views within three weeks of posting.

1,610

One youth football game, four reels

Ordinary sideline footage, cut into vertical reels. The defensive highlight, “NOT IN OUR HOUSE,” alone reached 929 views.

A documentary made from a conversation

A 4:35 Camino de Santiago documentary (476 views) and four Shorts, built from seven creators’ public footage in under 24 hours.

Where the views came from

A YouTube Studio snapshot from October 29, 2026, covering the previous 28 days, shows how people found the videos. None of it came from paid traffic.

83.0%of all channel views came from the Shorts feed
+73%Shorts views compared with the 28 days before
67.2%of Shorts viewers chose to keep watching instead of swiping away
1.9Knew viewers reached through Shorts

Studio figures cover a 28-day window ending October 29, 2026, for the whole channel; the project totals on this page are lifetime public view counts from November 4, 2026, so the two sets of numbers measure different things. “Stayed to watch” is YouTube’s measure of viewers who didn’t swipe away; it is not a completion rate.

What we learned

  1. Story travels further than spectacleThe best performers were people telling true stories: a poisoned drink, a near-death experience, a walk of hundreds of miles. Our most polished AI commercials drew a few dozen views each.
  2. Vertical cuts multiply a long recordingThe two Joe McMoneagle films drew 130 views; the Shorts cut from the same interview drew 2,933. One recording, edited for each format, reached far more people than the film alone.
  3. Long-form gets found through searchThe Camino documentary is our most-viewed long video, with “camino de santiago” among the search terms that led viewers to the channel.
  4. Not every upload lands, and that’s useful tooSome pieces were made for a client or a pitch, not for a general YouTube audience, and their numbers show it. That’s exactly why we test in public: it tells us which edits travel.

Your footage can do the same

If you already record interviews, podcasts, games, listings or events, the stories are probably in the footage. We find them, cut them for each platform, and hand you edits that are ready to post.

How these numbers were counted: lifetime views are YouTube’s public view counts for each upload, recorded on November 4, 2026; they will keep changing. Views are not unique viewers, and no revenue, leads or client results are claimed. The channel snapshot is from YouTube Studio for the 28 days ending October 29, 2026. Several projects use third-party source footage under the credits and disclosures on their case-study pages. Results on our channel are not a guarantee of results on yours.
